Previously, Carl worked, among others, as Senior Associate for the Berlin-based company SaEnergy Systems, which is active in the field of renewable energies. He holds a degree in economics from the Technical University of Berlin; as part of his studies, he completed an exchange semester at Udayana University Denpasar, Indonesia and a summer school in «EnvironmentalEconomics» at the London School of Economics.

Dennis Fink was born and lives in the Rhine area close to Cologne and he has a scientific background (Ph.D. in marine microbiology at the Max Planck Institute in Bremen in 2011). In 2012, he co-founded a media agency for science communication in Cologne together with a colleague and supported by the federal government's start-up grant and led it as CEO for 6 years. He then set up and managed marketing teams at companies such as QIAGEN and Labforward before joining Xlife Sciences AG in 2023. At home he is supported by his wife raising three daughters and when time permits, he can also be found at the gym or involved in musical projects.

He has also provided consulting services to the German government in technology innovations. From 2010 to 2017, he served as general secretary and member of the executive committee of the German Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech). He led the department of public policy and government affairs of Robert Bosch Ltd. Prof. Klein teaches as an extraordinary professor of the Berlin Institute of Technology and is a guest lecturer of innovation management at the Berlin School of Economics and Law.
